Nice to meet you here at Medium. My name is Mingjie, I am a Data Scientist@Disney, a technical content writer, and an independent Data Science Consultant.
I hope to share a little about who I am, what I do, and why I am writing on Medium.
About me:
I am currently working in the Walt Disney Company in New York City area, yes that’s the company run by Micky Mouse and his friends. Unfortunately, NYC doesn’t have a Disney theme park, so I usually spend time having fun by exploring data rather than exploring in the park.
I am a Blue Devil with my M.S. in Statistics from Duke, I am also a Nittany Lion with advanced degrees in Engineering from Penn State. We Are...!
Though with 5+ years of working with Machine Learning and Statistics, I still feel I need to learn and grow to be the successful DS that I always wanted to be.
Why write on Medium?
Learning from 0 to 1 is not the most difficult - the most difficult is how to continue learning to go from 1 to 100.
There are fundamental DS, ML, and statistics tutorials everywhere, you may feel like you know everything after reading them. Then you may start wondering: that’s it? It’s not that hard!
But why getting an ideal data job is so hard? I struggled when I realized data jobs in the industry are not what you expected while at school. Every project in real life has its pitfalls, tricks, and needs endless (or at least it seems) work for improvement.
That’s why I started to write these blogs - not to repeat the basic knowledge you may find at another 100 places, but thoughts that I summarized and reflected from my DS work with real projects. I love the idea of “knowledge sharing”. Someone’s experiences could save you time and struggle when you experience them. Let's grow together to be a better version of ourselves!
